The Maths Behind the Rarest Sprites (Drop-Rate Analysis)

Batman Sprite, home to one of the rarest chest variants

The chance of pulling a variant in N chests is 1 − (1 − p)^N. A 6.48% Epic base needs ~11 chests for a coin-flip and ~35 for 90%. Batman's 0.02% Cube needs ~3,500 chests for 50%. Zero Point's 0.000014% Cube would need roughly 5 million — which is why its Quack is a Mastery unlock, not a chest chase.

Drop rates are easy to list and hard to feel. "0.02%" and "0.000014%" both read as "basically never," but they're wildly different grinds. Here we turn the published rates into the only number that matters when you're actually opening chests: how many you need to open. Every figure below comes straight from our verified drop-rate table.

The one formula worth knowing

Each chest is independent, so the chance of getting at least one of a variant in N chests is 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p is the drop rate as a decimal. Rearranged, the chests needed for a given confidence C is N = ln(1 − C) ÷ ln(1 − p). We care about two thresholds: the 50% mark (a coin-flip — half of players hit it by here) and the 90% mark (a realistic 'almost certainly by now').

Common variants: very reachable

Base Epics like Demon, Duck and Aura sit at 6.48%. That's about 11 chests for a 50% shot and roughly 35 for 90%. King, Ghost and Striker at 5.25% need about 13 and 43. In other words, any base Epic is a session or two of focused chest-opening — no summoning required. Base Legendaries (3.6–4.6%) roughly double that: call it 15–19 chests for a coin-flip.

  • 6.48% (Epic base): ~11 chests for 50%, ~35 for 90%
  • 4.45% (Legendary base): ~16 chests for 50%, ~51 for 90%
  • 2.14% (Relic-Chest Mythic base): ~32 chests for 50%, ~106 for 90%

The rarest legit chase: Grim and Batman variants

Now the numbers turn cruel. The Grim Reaper's base is 0.15% — about 462 chests for 50% and over 1,500 for 90%. Batman's Cube variant sits at 0.02%: roughly 3,500 chests for a coin-flip and around 11,500 for 90%. These are the hardest variants you can still realistically farm, and it's exactly the point where summoning (a fixed 6,750 Dust for a Mythic) quietly becomes the smarter spend than gambling on chests.

  • 0.15% (Grim base): ~462 chests for 50%, ~1,535 for 90%
  • 0.02% (Batman Cube): ~3,466 chests for 50%, ~11,512 for 90%

Zero Point: the number that breaks the grind

The Zero Point variants are in a class of their own. The Cube Zero Point is listed at 0.000014% — plug it in and a 50% chance takes on the order of five million chests. Even if you opened one chest every ten seconds, non-stop, you'd be there for well over a year of real time. This isn't a grind; it's a rounding error. And the base Zero Point is out of the chest pool entirely (0%), so those variants can't even appear.

That single figure explains a design choice that confuses new players: the game gives you a Quack Zero Point through Sprite Mastery at 55 masteries instead. Mastery is a guaranteed, skill-and-time path to owning a Zero Point Sprite, precisely because the chest maths makes the variants effectively unobtainable. When a drop rate has that many zeros in front of it, the intended route is never the chest.

What the maths tells you to do

Read it as a decision rule. Anything above ~2% is a chest grind — just play. Between roughly 0.1% and 2%, compare the chest count against the 6,750 Dust summon cost and usually summon. Below 0.1%, stop opening chests for it; either summon the base and chase a cheaper variant, or go the Mastery route. You can model any specific variant with our drop calculator, but the shape of the answer is always the same: the published rate and the real effort diverge fast, and knowing the curve keeps you from throwing hundreds of chests at a lottery ticket.

FAQ

How many chests do I need to open for a Sprite variant?+

Use N = ln(1 − C) ÷ ln(1 − p). For a 6.48% Epic that's about 11 chests for a 50% chance and 35 for 90%. For a 0.02% variant like Batman's Cube it's roughly 3,500 and 11,500.

Why is the Zero Point Sprite so rare?+

Its base is out of the chest pool (0%) and its Cube variant is listed at 0.000014% — a 50% chance would take around five million chests. That's why the game offers a Quack Zero Point through Sprite Mastery at 55 masteries instead.

Is it better to summon or open chests?+

Above ~2% drop rate, open chests. Below ~0.1%, summon the base (6,750 Dust for a Mythic) or go the Mastery route — the chest count is simply too high to be worth it.
